HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani attended the state funeral of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi in Milan on Wednesday.

HH the Amir also extended his condolences to Italian President Sergio Mattarella, Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, the family of late Berlusconi and other senior Italian officials.

Thousands of mourners gathered in Milan's main square to bid their final farewell to Berlusconi, who led Italy with no prior political experience and built a media empire.

A number of heads of state, government and senior officials participated in the funeral.

HH The Amir said the former Italian Prime Minister had always been Qatar’s friend. He was keen, during his tenure, to develop and enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Sheikh Tamim extended his sincere condolences to the Government of Italy and to the family and friends of the deceased.

Berlusconi, who was 86, passed away on Monday. He had been hospitalised last Friday for the second time in months for treatment of chronic leukaemia. He also suffered over the years from a heart ailment, prostate cancer and was hospitalised for Covid-19 in 2020.
