His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has directed to send urgent medical aid to India as the country battles a catastrophic COVID-19 wave.

The devastating surge in the number of cases in India has seen overwhelmed hospitals and a shortage of essential supplies to manage the crisis.

In a tweet by Qatar News Agency, it was announced that HH the Amir issued the directives to support the friendly nation of India with immediate medical assistance.

Earlier this week, HH the Amir also held a telephonic conversation with Indian prime minister Narendra Modi.

During the call, HH the Amir and the Indian PM reviewed the two countries' efforts in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and ways to unite efforts in this regard.

HH the Amir underlined Qatar's solidarity with the people of India in the efforts the country is making to tackle the new wave. He also offered his condolences to the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those affected.
