His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday welcomed Italy’s Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte at the Amiri Diwan, where the two leaders engaged in discussions on enhancing Qatar-Italy relations, particularly in the economy, investment and defense sector.

A number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, including the developments in Libya, were also brought up during the official meeting which saw the attendance of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and several other ministers, in addition to the Italian premier’s official accompanying delegation, reported Gulf Times.
The Italian PM was accorded an official reception at the Amiri Diwan with HH the Amir hosting a luncheon banquet for him and his accompanying delegation in the presence of the Qatari senior officials.

Conte also visited some iconic infrastructures in Doha, along with some officials of Italian companies in Qatar, such as the National Museum of Qatar and one of the stations of the Doha Metro Project’s Red Line.
Chairperson of Qatar Museums HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani accompanied the Italian PM to the NMoQ visit and provided a detailed presentation of the museum’s pieces and collections.
The Italian PM viewed the geological development of Qatar, pearl collections, as well as an exhibition on the history of Qatar before discovering oil and gas.
At the end of his tour, Conte congratulated the State of Qatar and its people for the inspiring and iconic museum that gives shape to the vision of the country.

He added that his visit to the museum showed that it embodies a vision of "a community whose strength comes from culture and knowledge where people with different traditions and values contribute to the social development of each and every one,” according to The Peninsula.
Part of the Italian PM’s visit was dedicated to the inauguration of the new Italian embassy located at the Alfardan Office Tower in West Bay.
Additionally, he also officially opened the first permanent corner presenting 100% Italian products by Coldiretti, the main institutional agricultural organization comprising a large number of associates in Italy and Europe, at Lulu Hypermarket in Al Messila.

Conte met with media persons on the sidelines of the new embassy’s inauguration, where he mentioned that his meeting with HH the Amir was “very fruitful.”
“We talked about political issues because we would like to see stability and peace in the Middle East and North Africa. At the same time, we also talked about the presence of Italian companies in Qatar and their contributions to the infrastructure of the country,” Conte said, as reported by Qatar Tribune.
He further mentioned about his visit to one of the stadiums in Doha that was made by an Italian company, underlining that “this is an example of an important contribution of Italian companies to Qatar’s infrastructure network, such as manpower and expertise.”

“I believe these companies did much more for this country that is why today’s visit was an opportunity to strengthen co-operation, economic, and trade exchange,” he added.

Conte said that Italy welcomes Qatar’s investment in Italy's infrastructure, as indicated by HH the Amir, during the discussions between the two leaders.
“Discussions also revolved on energy and Italian companies that are active in Qatar, such as Leonardo and Fincantieri, among others. They are leading companies in the world for their know-how and are already operating in Qatar, so we believe that this visit will contribute to strengthening their presence here, as well,” Conte noted.
