HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is currently on a state visit to Malaysia, met with Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamed for the first time since the latter took charge earlier this year.

The two leaders discussed ways to bolster and consolidate relations between the two countries in the fields of energy, economy and investment. They also discussed other issues of mutual interest, reported Gulf Times.

The two leaders discussed co-operation between the two countries in the fields of clean energy and assembly of motor vehicles, in which Malaysia has extensive experience.

The two leaders also agreed to form a joint high committee headed by the two nations’ foreign ministers, in addition to activating the joint economic committee of 2009, according to Qatar Tribune.

The two leaders held discussions on the latest developments on the war in Yemen and the Syrian crisis. The meeting discussed Malaysian efforts to assist Rohingya refugees and the two sides agreed to intensify humanitarian and charity efforts for the same.

Today, HH The Amir is expected to honour winners of the Sheikh Tamim Anti-Corruption International Excellence Award during a ceremony in the Malaysian city of Putrajaya in co-operation with the United Nations.
