His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani today met with the Head of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Dr Ismail Haniyeh.

During the meeting, Dr Haniyeh commended Qatar’s endeavors and diplomatic efforts that contributed toward a ceasefire in Gaza as well as the country’s consistent support for the Palestinian people.

HH the Amir stressed Qatar’s strong support for the brotherly people of Palestine and their just cause.

He also emphasized the significance of unity of Palestinian ranks to obtain their legitimate national rights, at the top of which is their right to establish an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution, international legitimacy decisions and the Arab Peace Initiative, and in a way that enhances security and stability in the region and the world.

The meeting also looked into the most recent developments in Palestine as well as steps being taken to rebuild Gaza.

Qatar had strongly voiced its condemnation of the Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Gaza earlier this month.

The Gulf State had also called upon Arab leaders and the international community to unite efforts to put an end to the plight of the Palestinians facing Israeli aggression.

At the UN General Assembly meeting earlier this week, His Excellency Qatar's Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani reaffirmed Qatar’s complete rejection and condemnation of the Israeli police and settlers' attacks on Jerusalemites in the Damascus Gate area of the Haram Al Sharif, the use of violence against defenseless civilians, the setting up of barriers to rob them of their religious rights, and the Israeli occupation forces stormed the courtyards of the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque and brutally assaulted worshipers.

These unlawful practices, many of which amount to war crimes, constitute a provocation to the feelings of millions of Muslims around the world and a flagrant violation of human rights, international covenants, religious laws and human values, HE the FM had highlighted.
