His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at the Pearl Palace yesterday.
The meeting delved into the most prominent issues in the region and around the world, particularly the developments in Afghanistan and the efforts directed toward enhancing the country’s security and stability.

The US secretaries conveyed the appreciation of US President Joe Biden to HH the Amir, recognizing Qatar’s efforts to make sure peace prevails in Afghanistan. The secretaries also acknowledged Qatar’s key role in facilitating the evacuation operations of US nationals, citizens of allied countries as well as Afghan civilians, in addition to Doha's hosting of the talks between the US and the Taliban.
The US secretaries also lauded the solid relations between Qatar and the US as well as the diplomatic role of Qatar that ensures regional and international peace and security is maintained.
Earlier this week, His Excellency Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stressed that Qatar will continue to play its role as an international mediator on Afghanistan and coordinate with all friendly countries to ensure the rights of Afghans. He also mentioned that Qatar is sparing no efforts in communicating with the Taliban and is working to ensure the interests of Afghanistan and its people.
