The 2022 FIFA World Cup, spread over 64 games and 29 days, was one of the biggest and most memorable events to be held anywhere in the Middle East.

For the millions of fans who visited the country during the quadrennial extravaganza, the rich displays of cultural and entertainment activities were big draws.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy’s (SC) Cultural Activation Programme saw 16,190 performers, from around the world, make colourful contributions to activities at key locations including various stadium precincts, the Doha Corniche, FIFA Fan Festival, Al Messila Bus Mall, Brahat Al Janoub and Madinatna fan accommodations.

They were also huge draws during the FIFA World Cup’s grand finale on Qatar National Day, with artists concluding their journey at the parade at Lusail Boulevard.

“These performers played a huge part in the World Cup’s success. We’re humbled by their dedication. When fans walked away from matches either disappointed or victorious, these performances created beautiful moments of human connection,” said Khaled Al Suwaidi, SC Stakeholder Relations Director.

A total of 3,350 acts — covering 15 locations and over 128 activation spots — took an active part in FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Artists belonging to different categories including visual arts, crafts and heritage, fashion and design, performing arts, theatre, music and film delivered live performances throughout the tournament.

Artists from 44 different nationalities were a part of the Cultural Activation Programme.

Lulwa Al Mohannadi of the Al Nahda Ladies Group, which performs traditional Qatari dance and song, said they were honoured to represent the country on the global stage.

“Many fans were surprised to learn about our rich cultural heritage. Many were eager to learn more about it. It makes us proud to have showcased our local culture with millions of fans from around the world,” said Al Mohannadi.

Argentinian music band Viento Norte, which combined Latin American and Argentinian cumbia with pop and rock music, were pleased with the show.

“We came all the way from Argentina and seeing large crowds form around us in Qatar was inspiring. We were thrilled to play our music and see fans interact with each other through it,” said Group leader Carlos Adrian Seif.
