Qatar's dedication in its fight against COVID-19 is beginning to bear fruit.

With a drop in daily numbers of affected patients and a noticeable increase in recoveries in addition to a steady mortality rate, the country is gradually moving closer to overcoming the challenge.

Qatar's health authorities have played a tremendous role in protecting the health of the country's citizens and residents.

Very early on in the crisis, health authorities began working round the clock to convert existing facilities into dedicated COVID-19 testing, management, and treatment centers.

In addition to this new field hospitals were set up, including the Lebsear Field Hospital.

Located near Al Sheehaniya (Dukhan Road), the Lebsear Field Hospital was established as a joint initiative of the MoPH and the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Since its opening in May, the hospital received 1,884 COVID-19 patients and provided the necessary treatment to them, Clinical lead of the hospital Dr Abdulla Rashid Al Naimi said.

Yesterday, the hospital discharged its last COVID-19 patient.

“We provided a safe and comfortable environment for all our patients around the clock, as we allocated a room for each patient. Today, the last Corona patient was discharged from the Lebsear Field Hospital,” Dr Al Naimi mentioned.

The 504-bed hospital with three separate buildings was staffed with 70 healthcare workers, including doctors and nurses, when it was opened earlier this year.

It was opened to help ease the pressure on other designated COVID-19 hospitals in the country, according to Dr Al Naimi.

As Qatar continues to combat COVID-19, it is also in talks with several international pharmaceutical companies to procure a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as it is released for global use, a senior health official revealed earlier this week.
