For those of you who missed the Local Dates Festival earlier this year, worry not! The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) jointly with Souq Waqif has put together another opportunity for the public to enjoy Qatar's favorite local fruit, i.e. dates.
The Local Dates Exhibition kicked off at Souq Waqif yesterday featuring a variety of local dates from more than 56 local farms, in addition to the participation of Hassad Food and other entities.
Several MME officials participated in the launch of the festival along with representatives of Souq Waqif.
Welcome to the #LocalDatesExhibition at #SouqWaqif starting from tomorrow 16 October and continues until 26 October 2019; daily from 3pm to 10pm.

The 10-day exhibition is aimed at promoting the local produce of dates, in addition to introducing their different types and providing a variety of products made from dates.
The exhibition provides a platform for farm owners to market their products directly to the public.
Director of the MME’s Department of Agriculture Affairs, Yousuf Khalid Al Khulaifi stressed that the ministry pays special attention to dates as it is among the most important crops related to food security, reported Gulf Times.
According to Qatar's Minister of Environment and Municipality, His Excellency Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi who opened the exhibition, "Qatar’s self-sufficiency in the production of dates has reached 87 percent," as quoted by The Peninsula.
There are as many as 916 date farms in the country, with more than 30,000 tonnes of dates produced last year alone.
The Local Dates Exhibition will run from 3 pm to 10 pm every day until October 26.
If you're still undecided on whether you should visit, perhaps give this a read.
Will you be heading out to the exhibition? What is your favorite type of local date? Let us know in the comments below!
