According to him, the plan will result in considerable economic gains due to greater revenues and the advantages of reduced trip times, lower fuel and energy costs, lower carbon emissions, and fewer accidents and vehicle running expenses.
Eng. Hamad Essa Abdulla, Acting Assistant Undersecretary, Ministry of Transport, Land Transport Affairs, said that implementing the plan improves Qatar's ranking as one of the world's most sustainable countries by deploying innovative, sustainable transit solutions that support all aspects of development, improving the quality of life for citizens and everyone living in Qatar while preserving the national identity.
Including expressways, public transportation, pedestrians, cyclists, land transportation demand management, and other transit technologies, the plan contains an integrated set of programs and projects that serve all users of land transportation systems and networks through 2050, he said.
In addition to presenting 286 schemes and projects through 2050, including for developing road networks and public transportation, transportation services management, laws and governance, transportation technologies, planning and feasibility studies, he added, the Plan's key components and deliverables include developing over 60 national land transportation policies for Qatar that will help ensure further development of transportation services.
He claimed that the first activity-based model for the Middle East was created to keep up with technology development in transportation engineering and planning. According to him, the model, which replicates people's activities and is linked to programs for transportation planning, is used to assess the effects of ongoing and upcoming projects and policies on people's activities and transportation needs.
Moreover, he added, intelligent electronic systems have been developed to guarantee data sharing with all relevant parties for a secure and long-lasting access to data and the best possible use of it in land transportation initiatives.
The Plan also calls for the creation of national technical publications, such as the Qatar Highway Design Manual, which offers recommendations for designing future transportation systems, and the Qatar Trip Generation and Parking Rate Manual (QTGPRM).
Understanding that is essential for well-informed traffic and transportation studies centered on road and transportation projects as well as other urban and development initiatives around the nation.
In addition, they learned about the Concept Design to Connect Lusail City with an Expressway Network, which entails designing 25 significant intersections and 39 kilometers of roads, some of which are multilevel, to guarantee the safe and effective flow of traffic between the cities of Doha and Lusail as well as other regions.
By implementing these projects, the plan hopes to create an integrated and sustainable transportation network that boosts the national identity while supporting the economy and improving everyone's quality of life.
