The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE)’s Private School Licensing Department has concluded that over 62,000 seats are vacant in private schools and kindergartens across Qatar. New schools are also expected to open in the next academic year after the application procedures are settled.
The Ministry released a press release and a statement across their social media that published further details in this regard.
Private schools and kindergartens have begun the registration process at the beginning of March for the academic year of 2022–2023. This process is expected to end on October, 13, later this year for the students inside Qatar, while the new students coming from outside Qatar will continue with registrations until a later date.
The Director of the Private School Licensing Department, Hamad Mohammed Al Ghali, has shared advice for parents on the selection of private schools for their children based on the curriculum and tuition fees. He reveals that there are nearly 334 private schools and kindergartens in Qatar that offer a wide array of 24 different educational curricula. This means parents have a diverse range of options to consider while contemplating education for their kids.
Parents can visit the comprehensive database as listed by the Ministry of Education’s website and access general information there.
The Department also informed schools and kindergartens via a circular to open doors for registrations and list out the registrations and acceptance on the electronic system affiliated to the Ministry. Schools are also notified to inform the children’s guardian of the student’s registration within a week of the date of acceptance.
The circular also stressed on the fact that kindergarten students needn’t pay placement fees, as the test is free of charge. If there’s a vacancy, the placement test fee is taken when taking the test. Any student that has late fees from the school he is transferring from is not to be registered in the system. School are not entitled to keep students on the waiting list exceeding a week from date of request and must direct student to an alternative school.
All students being accepted into the schools must be within the planned capacity as directed by the Ministry and schools must not register any students beyond the said capacity.
