As a temporary measure, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has instructed pharmacies to accept prescriptions by doctors via email or WhatsApp. In light of the recent situation and public health, the move comes as a welcome measure for citizens as well as doctors.
The MoPH has temporarily decided to validate prescriptions by doctors working remotely. These can be accepted through email or WhatsApp of the doctor and the patient that doesn’t require patients’ presence at the clinic or other chronic conditions supervised by the doctor.
The recent development was declared in a circular issued by Dr. Aisha Ibrahim Al-Nassari, Director of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Control, where MoPH stated that the prescriptions must contain the full data including the doctor’s license number, patient’s personal number, and date of issuance. This prescription will be considered valid only until one week after the date of issuance.
However, all narcotic drugs and dangerous psychotropic substances subject to Law No. (9) of 1987 on control of drugs, psychotropic and psychoactive drugs subject to Law No. (19) of 1993 regulating the circulation of psychoactive drugs are excluded from this measure.
The Ministry states that this temporary measure can be resorted from now onwards until any further notice.
