Guaranteeing safe and extensive public transport is the number one priority during matches held between 20 November 2022 to 18 December 2022. Forming massive plans, Qatar is all set to incorporate its preparations that include bus services, the Doha Metro, and Lusail Tram.
Hamad Port received 130 electric buses in April this year. It marks the last cluster of a sum of 741 units that Qatar has already arranged for the World Cup. Mowasalat (Karwa) would take full responsibility for supervising this large-scale fleet planning to implant it in the country’s public transit system. Hence, it will create a legacy of clean energy mass transit after the football contest. Moreover, electric buses are also a part of a strategy to transition to electric transport developed by the ministry in association with the bodies concerned. It can be considered the commencement of transforming 25% of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM bus fleets to electric.
By 2022, electric transport will be utilized for Metrolink services. They will likewise be operating on public transit routes that will fundamentally work in Doha, as well as being deployed in Lusail City and Al Khor. On an estimate, 200 operational and administrative staff members and more than 3,000 drivers will be devoted to the e-bus fleet operations.
Ministry of Transport is executing Public Bus Infrastructure Program in coordination with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal). It is part of strategically distributing high-quality transportation services and modern parking facilities making them affordably accessible across the country. It upholds the country's public transportation network and Doha Metro services for residents, occupants, guests, and thrilled football supporters wishing to utilize public transportation to arrive at World Cup arenas.
