A trip to a farm or nature reserve in Qatar is a fun-filled experience for everyone. Qatar has many inviting farms and nature reserves with a host of activities ranging from a delightful petting zoo to an exciting expedition in a mangrove forest.

Get up close to nature by visiting these farms and nature reserves in Qatar.

Farms in Qatar

Baladna Park

An excellent respite in the outskirts of Doha, a trip to Baladna Park is the perfect family outing you have been looking for! You can watch cow milkings, feed the farm animals, visit the reptile cave and let your kids burn their energy at any of the play areas before heading back. The park also includes other activities such as archery, go karting, a thrilling ninja obstacle course and more for adults.

Timings: Daily: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm, Friday: 12:30 pm – 8:00 pm and Saturday: 10:00 am – 8:00pm

Entrance ticket: Adults (13+ years): QAR 35, Children (3-12 years): QAR 55

Inclusions: Animal zone, reptile cave, kids adventure land, kids play area, jumping castle and foot billiards (all other activities available on site are chargeable)

North Sedra Farm

A family-friendly farm that is an hour’s drive from Doha, North Sedra features a multitude of activities highlighting Qatari farm culture. You can feed the animals, take your kids on a pony ride, enjoy an exciting tour of the farm in a truck, and if crops are in season you can go strawberry picking and vegetable harvesting. Finish off your trip by feasting on some of the farm’s delectable dishes and enjoying a warm cup of karak in a cozy Bedouin styled camp.

Timings: Open only on Friday and Saturday: 12:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Entrance ticket: QAR 20, QAR 50 for 6 coupons to be redeemed for activities on site

Heenat Salma Farm

Revolutionizing the farm-to-table concept in Qatar and highlighting the importance of healing and well-being, Heenat Salma welcomes all who love nature. The farm is an excellent destination for those who appreciate sustainable living, offering you unique workshops and tours revolving around the traditional lifestyle of farmers. Some of the workshops and activities include pottery, silk painting, weaving and more. While their workshops and activities are made available according to demand, there are two tours that take place daily:

  • Vegetable harvest tour
  • Regular farm tour

Rates for tours: QAR 100 for adults and QAR 50 for children

Timings: 7:00 am till sunset

Advance bookings are required.

You can also make an advance booking to enjoy either breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner at the farm. Heenat Salma is also one of the few places in Qatar where you can enjoy an overnight experience in a farm.

Nature reserves in Qatar 

Oryx Reserve at Al Samriya Estate

A visit to the Oryx Reserve at Al Samriya Estate, is your chance to see the Arabian Oryx. In addition to preserving a habitat for the Oryx, the reserve is also home to other animals such as gazelles, ostrich and peacock. While you can visit any time, it should be noted that you cannot enter the reserve and you can only see the animals from a distance.

Location: Al Samriya Estate (5 minutes drive from Al Samriya Hotel)

Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve

A private zoo belonging to the Dosari family in Ash Shahaniya, the Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve has a number of animals including the Arabian oryx, ostriches, zebras, camels, tortoises and much more. It is an excellent opportunity for families to get up close with these animals for a fun-filled experience.

Timings: Open daily 7:00 am – 11:00 am and 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Entrance ticket: QAR 10 per person

Location: Ash-Shahaniyah

Al Karaana Lagoon

If you love long scenic drives and unique landscapes, a visit to Al Karaana Lagoon is an absolute must. A paradise for photography enthusiasts, the artificial lagoon is also a popular bird watching spot for nature enthusiasts. Al Karaana features different species of birds, fish and flora making it an excellent spot for nature lovers.

Timings: Can be visited at any time

Access: Free

Location: Al Rayyan Municipality

Tips:

  • Includes a bit of off road driving, however a 4x4 is not required.
  • Best avoided during the rainy season.
  • The lagoon has no barriers or guard rails. Be mindful of your surroundings to avoid any accidents.

Al Thakira Mangrove Forest

A natural gem located northeast of Al Khor, the Al Thakira Mangrove Forest is one of Qatar’s oldest and largest forests attracting birds such as herons and flamingos during their migratory period. The forest is also home to a variety of flora and fauna making it an excellent spot for the gram!

Timings: Can be visited at any time

Access: Free

Location: Northeast of Al Khor

Tips:

  • Includes a bit of off road driving, however a 4x4 is not required.
  • Best avoided during the rainy season.
  • While the mangroves can be seen at a distance, it is best enjoyed up close by a pre-booked kayaking tour.
