In yet another prestigious recognition for the country, the breathtaking National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) has won two honors at this year's Leading Culture Destinations (LCD) Awards.

The two awards, 'Best New Cultural Destination of the Year (Middle East / Africa)' and 'Best Shop of the Year,' were presented to NMoQ representatives at the LCD Berlin Awards earlier this week.

The LCD Awards, which are considered as the "Oscars for Museums," bring together leading cultural organizations, global tourism leaders, and distinguished global artists under one roof to celebrate leading established as well as emerging cultural destinations across the globe.

This year's nominees included 50 cultural destinations from 28 countries.

The Awards identify and shine a spotlight on some of the most creative and innovative projects that shape culture globally.

NMoQ, which has been designed by Pritzker Prize-winning French architect, Jean Nouvel, was earlier named among the top 10 museums and cultural venues of 2019 by Designboom, a leading web magazine on art and architecture.

Also, in August 2019, the highly prestigious Time Magazine had recognized NMoQ as one of the World's 100 Greatest Places for 2019

The destination museum "uses immersive video screens and dioramas to take the visitors on a mile-long journey through the peninsula's history, from geology to pearl-diving, to Bedouin life and finally back to geology - namely, to the discovery of the oil and gas that enriched the kingdom and paved the way for groundbreaking structures like this one," Time Magazine had said.
