As relevant authorities in Qatar ramp up efforts to tackle the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), schools are constantly being observed by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).

The schools will remain open as there are no COVID-19 cases in the community, according to MoPH.

“We are closely monitoring the situation in the country and there is no case of the disease from the community so far. Schools are also continuously watched and there is no need to close down the schools as of now,” commented Sheikh Dr. Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, director of Public Health at MoPH.

He also mentioned that other countries affected by COVID-19 have taken the decision to close the schools and educational institutions because COVID-19 cases were reported from the community members.

However, in Qatar, the patients had no contact with the wider community, the Ministry confirmed in a press statement. The patients are in a stable condition and are under complete isolation at Hamad Medical Corporation's Communicable Disease Center.

“Most studies also say that children under 22 years of old are the least affected by COVID-19. Even if they are infected, they get cured faster. The virus in general effects higher age groups and younger groups are comparatively safer from the virus. So, there is no need as of now to suspend the classes,” said Sheikh Mohamed.

“We have arranged a hotel and many places at different locations around the country to quarantine suspected cases. These buildings can cover hundreds of people to quarantined,” he mentioned.

Avoid unnecessary travel plans especially to those countries where there is a high risk of COVID-19.

MoPH has assured the public that it continues to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection and management procedures to protect the people of Qatar from being affected by the virus.

It reiterated that the risk of the coronavirus spreading in the country remains low.
