Over 26 million passengers used Hamad International Airport (HIA) last year, up 13 percent compared to the previous year.

Over 3m more passengers travelled through the airport in 2014 compared to 2013, HIA said yesterday.

It saw 26,356,392 travellers departing, arriving and transiting in 2014. Of these, 10.6m travelled through Doha international airport, former commercial airport, and 15.7m through HIA, which started commercial operations last May 27.

Cargo movements also increased by 13 percent with 114,445,235 more movements in 2014 compared to the previous year.

"We will introduce new facilities and services at the passenger terminal complex to ensure passengers have a seamless and hassle-free onward journey, marking our airport's commitment to world-class standards," said Badr Al Meer, Chief Operating Officer at HIA.

HIA's tranquil waterside setting provides a perfect backdrop for its stylish architectural elements, underpinned by advanced airport systems.

It features two runways, among the longest in the world, a state-of-the-art air traffic control tower, a stunning passenger terminal with an initial design capacity of 30 million passengers per year, over 40,000sqm of combined retail, food and beverage facilities and a uniquely shaped public mosque.
