Qatar is well on its way to deliver amazing in 2022. The country’s different sectors have been pulling all the stops to ensure the best experience for international, regional and local football fans during the world’s most popular football tournament.

In line with this, Qatar’s health sector is also making sure it leaves no stone unturned to provide the best possible healthcare services during the major sporting event.

Yesterday, His Excellency the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani inaugurated the first-of-its-kind, Qatar Health 2020 conference.

HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, HE the Minister of Transport and Communication Jassim Seif Ahmed Al Sulaiti in addition to several dignitaries and senior officials also participated in the opening ceremony of the conference.

Qatar Health 2020 focuses on ‘mass gathering healthcare’ and seeks to enrich the understanding of healthcare professionals in dealing with healthcare concerns during mass gathering events.

“In recent years Qatar has hosted an increasing number of mega sporting events that attracted thousands. Mass gathering events, in general, have the potential to strain health systems. For this reason, we are focusing on ensuring the healthcare sector as a whole is fully prepared and able to appropriately respond,” said Dr Al Kuwari.

“Qatar Health 2020 is part of our efforts to ensure our public healthcare system and professionals are ready for the 2022 World Cup,” the Minister of Public health added.

The three-day event provides a platform for attendees to exchange knowledge about best practices in public health, security, crowd as well as crisis management.

The event also convenes international experts from the previous World Cup hosts Brazil and Russia, who are here to share their experiences in mass gathering healthcare with the conference participants.

The Ministry of Public Health, in conjunction with Hamad Medical Corporation, the Primary Health Care Corporation, and Aspetar, has organized the Qatar Health 2020 conference.
