It was only recently that Qatar’s health care system was rated as the best in the Middle East and the 13th best in the entire world.

Drawing inspiration from the achievement, the country’s Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has announced that it will open two new facilities next month, taking the total number of centres in the country to 25, reported Gulf Times.

The two centres will be opened at Muaither and Al Wajbah respectively, said a top official.

“In the second half of this year, we’ll open two more health centres at Al Waab and Qatar University, taking the total number to 27,” said PHCC Managing Director Dr Mariam Ali Abdulmalik.

“We’re starting services at  the Muaither Health and Wellness Centre on  April 8 and on May 13 at the Al Wajba Health and Wellness Centres. Both health centres will be officially opened by the Prime Minister next month,” she was quoted as saying by The Peninsula.

The two new health centres that are ready for opening are of Type C category and will occupy an area of 19,800SqM. The PHCC’s aim is to have 10,000 registrations within the first year at Muaither Health Center. The new health centres will also have additional facilities such as ultra sound.

The recent launch for the National Health Strategy has placed a lot of emphasis on primary health care services.

PHCC Executive Director of Operations and Senior Consultant of Family Medicine Dr Samya Al Abdulla said Muaither and Al Wajba are located in populated areas and will reduce the load on neighbouring health centres.

“Abu Baker Al Siddiq, Al Rayyan and Abu Nakhla health centres are overcrowded with patients. Most of them attend to about 120,000 patients. And there’re high frequent visits daily, probably more than 600,” Dr Samya was quoted as saying by Qatar Tribune.

The new centres represents a leap in the quality of services by PHCC. They provide comprehensive health services such as family medicine clinics, pregnancy monitoring, healthy child services, routine immunisations, non-transitional disease clinics and smoking cessation services.

They also deliver services such as prenatal care, postnatal services, travel immunisation, dental clinics, nutrition and laryngologists, hearing and skin diseases, ophthalmology and physiotherapy.
