For all those planning to visit the beautiful island of Langkawi in Malaysia, Qatar Airways (QA) yesterday announced yesterday that it will offer four weekly flights from Qatar to Langkawi, via Penang, starting from October 15 this year.
This was announced during a press conference held in Kuala Lumpur, as part of the launch event of the QA flights to Langkawi.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Akbar Al Baker, led the press conference which convened the Qatari Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Mr. Fahad Mohammed Kafoud, Chief Minister of the State of Kedah, Dato’ Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir and Chief Executive Officer of Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), Dr. Hezri Bin Adnan, and some other senior officials.
In a statement on its website, QA said the new service to Langkawi is part of its strong expansion plans in Southeast Asia. It also marks QA's third destination in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
The airline said the frequency of the flights would be increased to five times a week from October 27.
Flights for this route will be offered on the state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, featuring 22 seats in Business class and 232 seats in Economy class, the airline said.
Known as ‘the Jewel of Kedah, Langkawi is home to lush tropical rainforests and mangroves rich in flora and fauna. The island has recently been named among Travel + Leisure’s 50 best places to visit in 2019.
“Langkawi is one of the most highly sought-after destinations in Malaysia and I am certain our flights will help increase accessibility and boost inbound tourism to this beautiful archipelago. With five weekly flights to Langkawi, our service offers a gateway for passengers to travel and experience Langkawi’s magnificent offerings," said Al Baker.
"We also aim to offer greater connectivity for passengers traveling from Malaysia to our extensive global network of over 160 destinations," he said, adding that this reflects the airline's commitment to growing its presence in Asia.
