Qatar and Spain have signed a Letter of Intent on cooperation related to security arrangements for the FIFA World Cup 2030, as the two countries move to strengthen coordination in the security field.
The agreement followed a meeting in Spain between HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force “Lekhwiya,” and Spanish Minister of the Interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez.
World Cup 2030 security cooperation in focus
During the meeting, the two ministers reviewed existing cooperation between Qatar and Spain and discussed ways to further develop bilateral ties, particularly in security-related areas.
Following the talks, the two sides signed a Letter of Intent between Qatar’s Ministry of Interior and Spain’s Ministry of the Interior covering security arrangements for the FIFA World Cup 2030.
The move opens the way for closer coordination and exchange of expertise as Spain prepares to co-host the global football tournament.
Broader security ties discussed
The meeting also covered a number of issues of mutual interest, with both sides discussing opportunities to expand cooperation beyond the World Cup framework.
Qatar has built extensive experience in security planning for major international sporting events, particularly following its hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The latest agreement reflects continued cooperation between Qatar and international partners in areas including major-event security, operational planning and coordination.
