The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, represented by the Wildlife Development Department, launched an extensive environmental campaign that resulted in the scattering of 5000 seeds and the cultivation of 300 wild seedlings in the "Suwairiyat" kindergarten in the Al-Ghuwayriyah region, in conjunction with the start of the rainy season, and to complete the approved kindergarten cultivation operations for the 2026 season.
The campaign aims to preserve and rehabilitate kindergartens, develop vegetation cover and biodiversity, enhance community awareness of the importance of wild plants, and involve the community in preserving natural sites.
In a statement today, the Ministry explained that the current timing of seed sowing is of great importance to take advantage of rainfall in stimulating the growth cycle of local plants and renewing vegetation, noting that the Rawd, by virtue of its low nature, constitute natural stores of rainwater and seeds.
She indicated that it relies on modern technologies including geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, and analysis of satellite images and spatial rules in its protection and rehabilitation programs, to determine protection priorities and direct field work according to the needs of each site.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change stressed that the success of aquaculture programs is linked to the selection of suitable native plant species, coupled with the protection of sites following the implementation of field work and the avoidance of harmful practices, such as cutting down trees, uprooting shrubs, and running over plants with vehicles.
It is noteworthy that Al Rawd is one of the pivotal ecosystems in the State of Qatar, as it represents a refuge for birds, animals and insects, and contributes to the recharge of the groundwater reserve.
