Qatar has been playing a prominent role in safely evacuating families, women, children, and minorities from Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul.

According to Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the country’s evacuation efforts have benefitted more than 40,000 people.

A majority of the evacuees are transiting in Qatar, where they are hosted for a couple of days before departing for appropriate destinations.

The Ministry added that Qatar will continue its efforts in this area in consultation with its international partners.

Qatar’s efforts mirror its commitment toward the people of Afghanistan and their right to dignity and safety, the Ministry stressed.

Amongst the evacuees are thousands of Afghan employees and their families, in addition to female students from across the country.

Qatar has also helped in evacuating citizens of the US, Germany, UK, and other countries from Afghanistan.

While in Qatar, the evacuees are provided with a PCR test, COVID-19 vaccine (if requested), transportation, and temporary accommodation, coupled with healthcare, meals, and all basic necessities.

At present, Qatar is hosting a large number of evacuees, the Ministry mentioned. Most of these are students, families as well as journalists.

“As an impartial mediator, Qatar has been talking with all parties to facilitate aid and evacuation, while staying informed of the policies and actions taking place on the ground,” the MOFA statement adds.

The Ministry affirmed that Qatar will do all it can to help the people of Afghanistan through diplomacy, dialogue, and developmental projects to achieve stability and prosperity.

Yesterday, Her Excellency the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson for MOFA, Lolwah bint Rashid AlKhater also met with the Afghan evacuees in Qatar.
