9 more days to go for the National Day of Qatar and here’s fact no.9 of our beloved country!
Something that everybody loves doing in Qatar is shopping. This nation is a mecca for shoppers as it has all sorts of things meant for each different individual.
Not only the shopaholics, literally everyone goes to malls every weekend to shop, to browse for special offers and promotions for well-known brands and sometimes just to “window shop”.
While Qatar is very “brand” conscious and loves the famous names, both local and international, it even owns some famous international brands and holdings as well- no surprise there!
For instance, Qatar owns England’s upmarket department store, Harrods and even the most expensive block of flats in the world, No 1 Hyde Park.

Not only that, the country is the biggest shareholder of Barclays, owns the Olympic Village and is the major shareholder of one of the largest chain of supermarkets in England, Sainsbury,
Also, Qatar owns swathes of the Canary Wharf financial district through its majority holding in Songbird Estates plc.
Meanwhile, if you’ve heard of the Camden Market, you’d know that it’s the biggest grunge emporium in Britain. And of course, Qatar owns 20% of it along with the 20% it owns at the London Stock Exchange.
It’s a pretty amazing country to live in, isn’t it?
