With the cooperation of retailers and participation of stakeholders from the public and private sectors, Qatar aims to take effective measures to address the issue of food loss and waste in order to achieve one of the 2030 sustainable development goals.
The National Food Systems Dialogue, hosted by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment in August in preparation for the World Food Summit, provided a good opportunity for all stakeholders to discuss and develop the food system in Qatar, as well as ways to overcome challenges and obstacles in line with United Nations’ goals.
The ideas generated by the discussions were compiled and evaluated. Furthermore, the State of Qatar submitted a complete report to the United Nations.
The Food Systems Summit aims to make progress on all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which are all dependent to some extent on healthier, more sustainable, and equitable diets; raise awareness about food system reform; develop principles to guide governments and stakeholders in leveraging their food systems to support Sustainable Development Goals; establishment of a follow-up system to ensure the continuity of the results of the conference; and the exchange of experiences, lessons, and knowledge among the participants.
