Qatar highlights social development, women’s empowerment and child protection efforts at UN

The State of Qatar participated in the meetings of the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly during its 81st session on item 24 entitled "Social Development", item 25 entitled "Advancement of women" and item 66 entitled "Promotion and protection of the rights of children", at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Mrs. Amna Abdullah Salat, Third Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, delivered statements by the State of Qatar on three items in the Committee.

With regard to social development, she said that in line with the State of Qatar's track record of hosting important UN conferences, it had the honor of hosting the Second World Summit for Social Development, which was hosted in Doha in November 2025, to bring world leaders together again three decades after the first World Summit was held in Copenhagen.

Ms. Amna highlighted the "Doha Political Declaration" as a very important document that contributes to advancing many of the topics discussed in the Third Committee, including promoting social development, ensuring quality education and decent work for all, pointing out that the Secretary-General's report under this item, indicates that the Doha Political Declaration and the Copenhagen Declaration provide a strengthened framework for accelerating progress in the field of social development and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

She pointed out that the State of Qatar has made remarkable progress and achieved important successes at the level of all pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030, pointing out that the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030 defines the plan for the next phase of the development process towards achieving the goals and aspirations of the Qatar National Vision, and the National Strategy of the Ministry of Social Development and Family 2025-2030 under the slogan "From Care to Empowerment", represents an integrated framework for the development of social policies and programs, and aims to support the family, empower women, and enhance the participation of persons with disabilities and the elderly Destiny.

Within the framework of the item of the advancement of women, she explained that the issue of women's empowerment occupies an important place at the top of the priorities of the State of Qatar, based on its firm belief in the importance of promoting women's human rights and their pivotal role in the development process of the country as a contributor and beneficiary of it, pointing out that enhancing the role of women in various aspects of life is one of the main pillars in the success of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which paid great attention to the issue of women's empowerment and enhancing their capabilities, and stated in this regard that the National Development Strategy The third of Qatar 2024-2030 focuses on raising awareness and recognizing women's contributions to society at large.

She pointed out that the State of Qatar's efforts to advance the status and empowerment of women were not limited to the national level, as it is keen to launch projects and initiatives that are targeted, pointing in this context to a pioneering initiative in which Qatar led international efforts and culminated in the adoption of General Assembly resolution 75/274, which designated March 10 as International Day for Women Judges.

With regard to the promotion and protection of children's rights, she pointed out that the State of Qatar has taken pioneering steps in the field of protecting and promoting children's rights, in line with its orientations towards investing in human beings and building promising generations capable of learning and positive participation in society, pointing out that it has taken many measures and procedures at the legislative and executive levels in various fields and sectors, in line with its commitment to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

She explained that the State of Qatar is at the forefront of donor countries to the Office of the Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, with a total contribution of US$ 2,300,000 during the period 2018-2026, pointing out that it is keen to provide multi-year support to UNICEF, as its total contributions during the period 2019-2026 amounted to about US$ 28 million.

In this regard, Ms. Amna stressed that this ongoing country support is in line with her firm belief in the pivotal role that such partnerships play in promoting joint action for the benefit and protection of all children.

She reiterated the State of Qatar's commitment to continue its efforts to promote social development, empower women, and protect children's rights, expressing her aspiration to continue constructive cooperation with the international community, in order to contribute to achieving common goals in these fields.
