Qatar and Italy share longstanding friendly relations, which have been consolidated through cooperation across various fields including economy, politics, defense, investment, education, sports, art, and tourism, among others.

Italy is the eighth largest trading partner and the seventh-largest supplier to Qatar, with the volume of trade exchange between the two countries exceeding €1 billion, the Qatar News Agency had reported earlier this year.

Owing to the wise leadership of the two countries, the Qatari-Italian bond has witnessed rapid and solid growth reflected in ongoing strategic partnerships.

As Qatar and Italy eye further strengthening of relations, the defense ministers of the two countries held official talks in Rome yesterday.

His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al Attiyah arrived in Italy yesterday.

He held official talks with Italian counterpart, the Minister of Defence, Lorenzo Guerini.

The meeting looked into Qatar-Italy relations, particularly in the military and defense fields. The two ministers spoke about ways to further consolidate and develop defense and military cooperation.

The Commander of the Qatari Amiri Naval Forces Staff Major General (Navy) Abdullah Hassan Al Sulaiti, and Qatar's military attache in Italy Brigadier General (Navy) Hilal Ali Al Mohannadi, as well as Qatar's ambassador to Italy Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Maliki Al Juhani also joined the meeting in addition to several senior officers in Qatari Armed Forces.
