The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QNCO) today announced that it will present an exceptional evening titled "The Oscar Race: An Evening of Music for Oscar-Winning Films" next Saturday, at the Qatar National Convention Center.
The concert takes the audience on a captivating musical journey through the most famous cinematic compositions that have created some of the most timeless moments in the history of cinema.
The concert will be held in collaboration with the European Philharmonic Film Orchestra and will be led by international maestro Frank Strobel, one of the world's leading film soundtracks in concert halls, and will be accompanied by narrator Manfred Kalsen, who will provide audiences with fascinating glimpses of the films and music that made the glories of the silver screen.
From the desert scenes of Lawrence of Arabia to the epic chariot race at Ben-Hur to the thrilling adventures of Back to the Future to the dreamy romance of La La Land, the evening is a celebration of the music that audiences have loved and lived long off the screen.
The first part of the concert will feature works by some of the world's leading composers, including Dimitri Teomkin, Alex North, Miklós Rosa, Patrick Doyle, Steven Warbeck, Michael Giacchino and Alan Silvestri, and highlights of the selection include the music of the film "Spartacus", "The Carriage Driver's Show" from "Ben-Hur" and a sequel from "Shakespeare in Love", as well as the music of the film "Father" and an anthology from "Back to the Future".
In the second part of the concert, the audience will enjoy a mesmerizing cinematic atmosphere with a sequence of music from "La La Land" by Justin Horowitz, a selection of music from "The English Patient" by Gabriel Yarde, as well as an epic sequence from Maurice Jarre's "Lawrence of Arabia", and the evening will conclude with one of the most iconic pieces in the history of cinema, "Adventures on Earth" from the film "E.T.: The Alien" by legendary musician John Williams.
Not only is the concert an orchestral performance, but a celebration of the emotional power of cinematic music and its ability to bring to life the stories, characters and scenes that have inspired millions around the world, from historical dramas and grand sagas to romance stories and family films, the programme celebrates music that has transcended the boundaries of the screen to become part of the global cultural memory.
