Qatar’s health care system has consistently been rated among the world’s best.
Over the years, the country has intensified its focus on increasing its medical facilities and services while also fostering a culture of research across various specializations in a bid to provide the best possible medical care to its citizens and residents.
Despite the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has affected over 500 individuals in Qatar (as of now), the country continues to ensure self-sufficiency in medicine and medical supplies.
According to an infographic posted by the Government Communications Office (GCO), Qatar’s investment in the self-sufficiency of medicines reinforces its “efforts to safeguard the health and wellbeing of [its] citizens and residents."
The country ranks highly on several key global healthcare metrics.

These include the following:
- Qatar ranks first in terms of doctors per capita
"With 77.4 physicians per 10,000 people, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), Qatar has the highest number of doctors per capita in the world,” the infographic reveals.
- Qatar ranks fourth in terms of satisfaction with healthcare
"Qatar has invested heavily in its health infrastructure, leading to one of the world's highest levels of population satisfaction, according to the Legatum Institute,” the infographic adds.
- Qatar among top five for health globally, highest in the region by the Legatum Institute
"The 2019 Legatum Prosperity Rankings place Qatar in the top five globally for health, the highest in the region," according to the GCO infographic.
Furthermore, the infographic highlights that Qatar “has made great strides towards achieving 100% self-sufficiency in both medicines and medical supplies.”

Meanwhile, Qatar's efforts to contain COVID-19 have been remarkable, and have been acknowledged by WHO Director-General recently.
The country set up quarantine facilities within a highly impressive, short period of time.
In addition to several of its measures, the country's rate of testing for COVID-19 has also been one of the highest in the world.
