Qatar has been working above and beyond to support the people of Afghanistan and help the country as it undergoes a transitional period.

Earlier this week, His Excellency Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stressed that Qatar will continue to play its role as an international mediator on Afghanistan and coordinate with all friendly countries to ensure the rights of Afghans.

In addition to its mediation efforts, Qatar has helped evacuate more than 40,000 people from Kabul and has been providing temporary shelter to several Afghans before they depart for appropriate countries.

Building on these efforts, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced yesterday that a Qatari plane carrying 26-tonnes of humanitarian aid had arrived at Kabul International Airport.

The aid was provided by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and Qatar Charity (QC) and included medical and food supplies.

This aid follows another 17-tonne shipment that was sent to Afghanistan on Saturday. The aid package comprised food products such as rice, sugar, salt, flour and infant formula.

HE Qatar’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Saeed bin Mubarak Al Khayareen welcomed the arrival of the aid. He also witnessed the launch of the first domestic civil flight of a total of two flights from Kabul to Kandahar Airport and Mazar-i-Sharif Airpor after the recent events.

HE the Ambassador highlighted that a technical team from Qatar was able to reopen Kabul Airport to welcome humanitarian aid and flights. According to HE Al Khayareen, the airport will be ready for international civil flights soon.
