Qatar and South Korea have enjoyed friendly relations for several years.

The visit of the South Korean premier, Lee Nak-yeon, to Qatar this week, has further cemented the relationship between the two nations.

His Excellency Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani held official talks with the South Korean Prime Minister yesterday at the Amiri Diwan.

The two leaders were accompanied by their official delegations of ministers and top officials from both countries.

At the meeting, HE Qatar's Prime Minister greeted the South Korean PM and the delegates accompanying him and called their visit an important step in consolidating Qatar-SouthKorea bilateral ties.

Lee Nak-yeon praised the strong relations between the two countries and said he was looking forward to furthering cooperation.

The two sides discussed bilateral ties and means to develop and promote them across different areas, particularly energy, trade, investment, security, health, tourism, and transport.

They also reviewed regional and international developments of mutual interest.

At the end of the meeting, both prime ministers oversaw the signing of some deals including:

- a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the legal field between the Ministry of Justice in Qatar and the Korean Ministry of Justice

- an MoU for cooperation and academic exchange between Qatar Museums and the National Museum in the Republic of Korea

- an action plan on security cooperation in the field of training and exchange of expertise between Qatar's Ministry of Interior and the Korean National Police Agency.

Several Qatari ministers and South Korean representatives participated in the signing ceremony.

Earlier, His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani also welcomed the South Korean PM and the accompanying delegation at his office in the Amiri Diwan. The meeting focused on reviewing bilateral relations and ways to advance them further.

In January this year, as part of his Asian Tour, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had visited South Korea. During the visit, multiple agreements were signed between the two nations as a means to promote collaboration and boost ties.
