A fatal stabbing incident in Trappes, a suburb west of Paris, left two people dead and another injured, according to France’s National Police.

The officials said the perpetrator of the attack was also killed during a confrontation with the police, according to CNN International.

“After the attack, the attacker ran into a house to hide. He left shortly afterwards and threatened police before being neutralised,” the French police said.

Qatar, which for many years have a close relationship with France and especially Paris, has condemned the attack and denounced it in strong terms, according to Gulf Times.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the country’s firm stance on rejecting all forms of violence and terrorism, regardless of the motives and reasons behind it, reported The Peninsula.

The statement also offered Qatar’s sincere condolences to the victims’ family, the government and the people of France.

Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the knife attack. However, there are reports that it may have been a family dispute gone bad. The two women who were killed are the mother and sister of the attacker, it has been learnt.

“The attacker had serious psychiatric problems and he was a known terror apologist. He was unstable, rather than committed to terrorism,” said France’s Interior Minister Gerard Collomb.
