The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has announced a new set of updates to its COVID-19 Travel and Return Policy that will come into effect on September 4, 2022, at 6 PM local time.

Based on the COVID-19 indicators in the country and internationally, the policy has been updated to facilitate the process of travel and return, while fully adhering to all preventive measures against the threat of the virus. According to the Ministry, travel policies have previously played a major role in Qatar achieving a successful COVID-19 strategy, ultimately making sure that the country stays on the safe side of the situation.

The following are some of the key points that will be implemented:

  • The removal of the list of countries subjected to COVID-19 Red Health measures
  • The removal of quarantine requirements of all travelers, except those who test positive for COVID-19 and will be required to isolate and quarantine according to the procedures put forth by Qatar
  • Irrespective of the vaccination status, every individual is required to go through the following pre-arrival and post-arrival testing measures:

    - Citizens and residents to undergo a rapid antigen test (RAT) within 24 hours upon arrival at a Primary Health Care corporation health center or a MoPH-approved private medical center.

    - Visitors must bring a Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR) test certificate with a negative result received within 48 hours from the scheduled flight to Qatar or a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) with a negative result within 24 hours from the scheduled flight to Qatar

In addition to this, it has also recently been announced by the Qatari Cabinet that masks are not mandatory anymore for citizens, residents, and visitors in all closed public spaces starting from September 1, 2022. However, everyone still needs to wear masks inside healthcare facilities and while using public transportation for safety purposes.

As per previous preventive guidelines, anyone entering Qatar must download the Ehteraz app upon arrival.
