Days after two earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria, Qatar has been at the forefront of rescue operations. In addition to sending aid and specialised personnel to help with search and rescue, Qatari residents have been raising massive funds as aid.

The ‘Aoun Wa Sanad’ campaign for Turkey and Syria — launched on Friday jointly by the Qatar Red Crescent Society, Qatar Charity, Qatar Authority for Charitable Activities, and Qatar Media Corporation — saw people donate more than QR168m within a single day.

HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani led the campaign from the front, generously donating QR50 million for the charitable cause.

The campaign also received an overwhelming response from the public, with several private and public corporate organisations and individuals donating large amounts. Both Qatar National Bank and the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) each contributed  QR10 million.

While Ooredoo, Doha Bank, and Gulf Exchange each donated QR1 million, Al Jazeera Medical Center and AlKhaleej Takaful Insurance put in QR900,000 and QR500,000 respectively.

Estithmar Holding, Baldna and Hussain Al Fardan and sons all contributed QR1 million towards the fund.

There were also individual donations, from both anonymous and non-anonymous donors, with some of them making donations of QR4 million and QR5 million. A young girl named Rawdah bint Fahad made a personal donation of QR2 million.

Many people were also seen flocking to the different donation points, set up at Souq Waqif, Aspire Park and Katara, for monetary and in-kind donations.

People who wish to donate to the cause can do so here.

Qatar kicked off its rescue operations in Turkey and Syria with the launch of an air bridge, at the directive of Sheikh Tamim, through which personnel and aid were sent.

Qatar has also allocated 10, 000 mobile homes for use by those affected by the earthquake.

The QRCS has also called for material donations from people living in Qatar. The donated materials can be put in transparent bags and delivered to Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center (Building 118, Street 813, Zone 66, in Al Dafna, Doha) between 9am and 5pm, it said in a tweet.
