Within a few weeks of removing the face mask as a mandatory precaution in open public spaces, Qatar is back to reinforce it again. This was decided at the weekly Cabinet meeting at the Amiri Diwan on Wednesday, presided by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al Thani.

The Cabinet has decided that face masks are now mandatory in both closed and open public spaces. The only exception is for people who practice sports in open spaces. The decision came as a precautionary measure in light of the rising cases of Omicron and Delta virus in the last week.

The meeting also decided to allow the ongoing and upcoming conferences, exhibitions, and events to go on as planned if they comply with the following regulations:

  • Visitor capacity not exceeding 75% in open spaces
  • Visitor capacity not exceeding 50% in closed spaces, provided 90% of the participants are fully vaccinated. Those who aren’t vaccinated must be obligated to do a Rapid Antigen test or PCR test approved by the Ministry of Health.

In all cases, every conference, exhibition, or event is required to obtain prior approval from the Ministry of Public Health before taking place.

The Ministry shall grant approval only after careful consideration of the compliance measures with the health requirements, procedures, precautionary measures, and controls as directed.

All necessary measures to ensure compliance with health requirements and prescribed measures come under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Public Health, and other government agencies.

All these prescribed decisions and rules will be effective starting Friday, December 31, 2021, until further notice.
