While there may not have been a breakthrough in the Gulf Crisis, tensions seem to have diffused a little with the new developments this year.

This is reflected in the participation of the national football teams of blockading nations UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain in the Arabian Gulf Cup hosted by Qatar this year, followed by the participation of Qatar's Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani at the GCC summit in Riyadh earlier this month.

This week, a delegation from Qatar arrived in Abu Dhabi to participate in the 8th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Qatari delegation, headed by President of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Hamad bin Nasser Al Misnad, discussed the ways to enhance cooperation between Qatar and several international organizations participating in the conference in preventing and combating corruption, according to Qatar News Agency.

Discussions were held with several officials of the organizations and the heads of the national agencies concerned in the field.

The conference reviewed the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, the only global legally binding anti-corruption instrument.

It also discussed ways to prevent corruption and strengthen international cooperation to combat corruption and better asset recovery.

The conference is one of the world’s largest anti-corruption gatherings and brings together people from the Member States, parliaments, inter-governmental organizations, civil society, the private sector, and the media.

Qatar was one of the first countries in the world to host the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, as Doha hosted the third session of the conference in 2009.

The third session approved a review mechanism of the UN Convention against Corruption, which continues to play the greatest role in promoting the implementation of the Convention and the exchange of relevant international experiences.
