Qatar, as a nation, has always worked for the welfare and happiness of the people living in the country.

From providing affordable, world-class healthcare to reducing prices of essential goods during the Holy month of Ramadan, the country’s wise leaders have taken a number of steps to keep inflation in check.

Qatar’s Shura Council, during their regular weekly meeting at the Tamim bin Hamad Hall on Sunday, praised the Qatari government’s plans and policies to address inflation by implementing various measures.

The Shura council, which met under the chairmanship of its Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, also made several recommendations to address the issue.

The council called on concerned authorities to protect consumers and monitor prices by intensifying their campaigns in the market, encourage free competition and work to prevent monopoly, and provide all means of support for local products to make them available on a bigger scale in local markets as well as encourage its export to compete abroad.

The members also pointed out the urgent need to increase street and commercial areas in various parts of the country, providing merchants with a wider variety of options. The resultant lowering of rental and real estate prices would lead to reduced production costs and lower prices.

They also noted the need to support entrepreneurs and strengthen small and medium-sized companies, directing them to increase investment in services and basic commodities sectors.

The members also called for more attention to basic commodities and food production sectors, supporting national factories, companies and farms, and enhancing their capabilities for external competition.

The Shura Council members attributed inflation in the country to external factors like high transport and freight costs, booming energy prices and interruption of supply chains.

After extensive discussions, the Council decided to submit a proposal to the government on lowering inflation, cost of living, and financial burdens on citizens.
