The Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) has issued a warning for strong winds and high waves offshore today.

The coastal forecast until 6pm on Saturday indicates moderate to relatively cool conditions during the day, turning cold at night, with suspended dust expected in some areas at the beginning of the period. Sea conditions along the coast will be generally clear.

Coastal winds will be variable at first before shifting mainly northwesterly at speeds ranging from 5 to 15 knots, with gusts reaching up to 20 knots in some areas at times. Offshore, winds will blow from the west to northwest at 5 to 15 knots, strengthening to between 10 and 20 knots and reaching up to 27 knots in some areas by evening.

Horizontal visibility along the coast is expected to range between 4 and 9 kilometres, while offshore visibility will range from 5 to 10 kilometres.

Wave heights along the coast will range from 1 to 3 feet, increasing to between 2 and 4 feet in the evening. Offshore wave heights will range from 2 to 4 feet, rising to between 3 and 6 feet and reaching up to 8 feet by evening.

The Abu Samra and Al Ghuwayriyah stations recorded the lowest temperature for the morning, which was 10°C, while the capital Doha recorded 16°C, QMD said.

The highest expected temperature in Doha is 25°C.
