Qatar, thanks to the many steps it has taken in recent years to promote tourism, is a favourite destination for cruise travellers from around the world.
The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), which has been busy promoting the country as a must-visit place in the Middle East, has joined hands with Mowasalat to make it easier for tourists to move around the country.
The QTA and Mowasalat recently signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) to further develop tourist transport services. This will help ensure that growth in cruise tourism demand is matched with flexible and reliable transport services, reported Gulf Times.
The MoU is seen as part of QTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the overall visitor experience. It is also interesting to note that the agreement was signed a few days ahead of the official start of the busy cruise season.
The MoU is expected to open new avenues of collaboration between QTA and Mowasalat to enhance tourist transport experience through data sharing, training, technical and logistical support and exchange of expertise, reported The Peninsula.
The primary focus of the MoU will be on developing all transport services related to cruise tourism to meet the sector’s growing demands. The cruise sector is expecting to welcome almost 200,000 visitors by 2020.
According to the details of the MoU, QTA will work closely with the Qatar Ports Authority (Mwani) to ensure that only authorised taxis can access the visitor arrival area at Doha Port.
