Qumra 2026 Goes Online in light of recent developments in the region

The Doha Film Institute (DFI) has announced that Qumra 2026, its flagship talent development initiative, will take place online from March 27 to April 8, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of participants amid ongoing regional developments.

Qumra is widely recognized as a unique platform dedicated to mentoring and nurturing emerging filmmakers from Qatar, the region, and across the globe. The programme supports first- and second-time directors by helping them refine their projects and develop original, impactful stories.

This year’s edition will bring together a curated selection of projects and international industry experts through a series of virtual mentorship sessions, masterclasses, and one-on-one meetings. Key components of the programme include development labs, industry sessions, and the Series Pitch, offering participants direct access to decision-makers and leading voices in global cinema.

Through its structured approach, Qumra provides filmmakers with hands-on guidance from acclaimed mentors, enabling them to shape their creative vision and advance their projects toward production and distribution.

Despite the shift to a fully digital format, the initiative continues to uphold its mission of fostering authentic storytelling and amplifying diverse voices in cinema. The online model also allows for broader accessibility and global participation, reinforcing Qumra’s role as a vital hub for creative exchange.

Since its inception, Qumra has played a significant role in supporting the growth of the regional film industry, helping emerging talents gain international recognition while contributing to the cultural landscape of Qatar.

The 2026 edition reaffirms DFI’s commitment to empowering storytellers and strengthening the future of cinema, ensuring that creative voices continue to thrive, regardless of circumstances.
