QL brings to you our top tips for making a resume that stands out to local employers. Apart from the 4 C’s – being concise, chronological, consistent, and correct, we give you a few well-known tips from the insider market.

Font
We’re putting this on top of the list because this plays a huge role when it comes to employers checking resumes. With the limited time that they have, they need to be comfortable with the first glance! Try to keep it basic and clean with a Times New Roman or Arial with the font size ranging from 10-12 points. This helps in breaking the content of the resume easily and makes your resume look more professional as well. Bullet points will be your saviour here!

Language
Your resume should be written in active tense without complex grammar or language. You need to make sure that your sentences are concise and send the message across easily.

Contact Information
Your resume should have your contact information right on the top that should include, name, number, and email address. If it is not asked in the job description specifically, do not add extra information like race, politics, nationality, or a picture.

Your Profile
This is where you give your potential employer an idea of your job expertise and the areas that you feel like you ace at. Do not mention the names of companies here because these will already be a part of your resume. You can briefly speak on your skills and personal traits to give the employer an idea of what you bring to the table. 


Profesionnal Experience 
Your resumeshould then have your job summary, starting from the current job and going up to the oldest. Usually, resumes in Qatar are 2 pages long but, if you are more experienced, your resume can go up to 3 pages as well. 

Each position needs to state the job title, company, the dates you worked there with a brief description of your roles and achievements in the said position. Make sure your tenses are right and you’re using present tense for your current job and past tense for the previous jobs. Using numbers and figures to showcase your achievements will always be a plus point here!

Education
This is the part where you need to add all your degrees, including any certificates, diplomas, or professional qualifications you hold. 

Include Subheadings
Once you have completed the absolute needful, other information that might add value to your employer can be added to your resume. This can include the number of languages you speak, different skills you have, and even volunteer and community work can be an added value. These can come under the ‘Achievements’ title to highlight your work. 

We advise you to double-check your tone and make sure the resume is well-formatted. You need to read through it and see job descriptions as well to make sure they’re fitting. An easy-to-read resume accompanied by a compelling cover letter can do wonders for you!
