Qatar, as part of its efforts to attain self-sustainability in food production, has been aggressively promoting local farms indulging in agriculture and animal husbandry.
Authorities have also been regularly organising festivals where local produce are highlighted and sold.
The Agricultural Affairs Department at Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality has launched a ‘Rhamnus and Honey’ festival at the Al Mazrouah Yard in Umm Salal Central Market.

The 10-day festival, which kicked off on Thursday, will continue until February 4. The market will run from 7am until 2pm each day.
While 25 local farms will sell large varieties of rhamnus (kanar) fruits, 10 farms will be selling natural honey products.
The event is specifically aimed at marketing locally grown rhamnus or kanar produce to the public. The nutritionally rich fruit grows best from mid-January until May.
