Qatari cuisine and its growing popularity have added to the vibrant culinary scene in Doha as food connoisseurs throng to restaurants that serve local dishes. Saasna is one such restaurant that has captured the palate of Qatari cuisine perfectly by bringing forth traditional Qatari cooking but with a contemporary flair.
Located in Barahat Msheireb, Saasna restaurant derives its meaning from the word ‘Asaasna’ which aptly means origins in Arabic. The name reflects Saasna’s philosophy to root its dishes in the local culture, values, and traditions. The menu draws from original dishes while also giving it a signature modern touch.
Saasna is headed by Chef Sheikha Ahmed Al Meer, a renowned chef applauded for her book, The Art of Qatari Cooking, which was published in 2000. Since then, she has heralded a revival of the cuisine through her book, which guides people to conserve and protect the heritage of Qatari food.

Walking into the restaurant gives guests a warm, inviting ambiance further complimented by the friendly staff. The menu is a fusion of modern dishes alongside traditional recipes such as the saloona, chicken madruba, majbous, and harees. The selection of chapatis include delicious combinations like the cheese and honey chapati, plain, cheese, kheema, potato, and egg cheese chapati.

The drinks selection includes an array of hot and cold beverages including coffees, teas, milk, and soft drinks. Desserts also featured are Arab-inspired desserts such as Balalil, Aseeda, Khabis, dates ice cream, and others.
