In coordination with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), the Ministry of Education (MoEHE) has announced that students missing school exams due to overlapping COVID-19 vaccine appointments can attend the second round of the exam.

The announcement was made in relation to the importance given to the Nation Campaign for the COVID vaccination in the State of Qatar.

Mohamad Al Bashri, Adviser to the Minister of Education and Higher Education, stated that students will be given a chance to appear in the second round of examinations in the case of clashing dates during a Qatar TV program yesterday.

Al Bashri pointed out that the second-semester exams of secondary school certificates for the academic year 2020-21 has started and about 70 percent of students from secondary schools have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Furthermore, he explained that 97 percent of school staff including teachers, administrators, and workers in government and private schools have been vaccinated fully against COVID-19 in cooperation with MoPH.

Students infected with COVID-19 and those who came in contact with infected persons will be exempted from the examination, with such students being required to present a  medical certificate issued by MoPH to get the chance in the second round of examinations.

However, it is mandatory for students from grades 1 to 12 to take the examination in person at their respective schools.

Al Bashri said that under the preparation for examinations, all government and private schools operating in the country have been disinfected to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“Buses transporting students are being disinfected on a daily basis and preventive measures have been implemented for the drivers.”

teams from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and MoPH are conducting inspections in government and private schools on a daily basis to ensure compliance with preventive measures, he added.

Speaking about the impact of the pandemic on the quality of education, Al Bashri said there is a minor dropout due to a lack of classroom teaching because of the coronavirus.

On the other hand, exam performances for the previous and current year indicate good results.
