The Electrical and Computer Engineering Programme at Texas A&M University in Qatar (Tamuq) has been ranked in the top 75 of the best electrical and electronics engineering programs worldwide according to Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2020.
This is the second confirmation of the elite status of Tamuq’s electrical engineering program, which in 2019 was ranked 68th worldwide by US News & World Report in the category of Best Global Universities for Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Established 16 years ago, the Electrical and Computer Engineering Programme has evolved into a top program because of the support offered by Qatar Foundation and Texas A&M’s main campus in College Station, Texas (US), said program chair Dr. Erchin Serpedin.
Tamuq Electrical engineering programme enters top rankings
Such success corroborates the high quality of the research activities conducted in the department, which have been supported by grants offered by the Qatar National Research Fund. One such recent success is the $3.2mn international collaboration led by the Electrical and Computer Engineering Programme for smart grid cybersecurity infrastructure in Qatar, with the ultimate goal of providing safer, more reliable energy supply for the country.
Dr. Serpedin said the high level of education and research activities offered by the program can be attributed to the excellent placement of its graduates in masters and doctoral programs at elite universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of California, Berkeley, Caltech, Georgia Tech, Columbia University, and University College London.
Tamuq dean Dr. César Octavio Malavé said, “Texas A&M University is one of the top engineering institutions in the world and our engineering programs have carried on this tradition here in Qatar since 2003. We are proud of our record of success in all of our academic programs and gratified to see the accomplishments of our Electrical and Computer Engineering Programme reflected in global rankings.”
