As temperatures dip in Qatar, there’s nothing more tempting than curling up with a hot drink and enjoying the crisp winds of a desert winter. With its warming spices, Qatar’s unofficial national drink, Karak, is the Gulf’s take on spiced chai and is the perfect drink to gather friends and family around.
Not only the perfect hot drink, Karak is a well-known pastime in Qatar. Made with loose black tea leaves, crushed cardamom, saffron, sugar and evaporated milk - we’ve rounded up some of the best places this winter offering traditional and unique takes of the much-loved tea.
Karak Stop

This speciality tea destination is the perfect place to start for any Karak aficionados where love for the drink is a universal language. Located in Mall of Qatar and Landmark Mall, Karak Stop offers a unique blend for a truly exceptional experience.
While Chocolate Karak is definitely worth a try, we strongly recommend you grab their signature Tandoori Karak and savour the smoky notes.
Chapati and Karak

A late night stroll by Katara’s promenade as you take in the evening sights of the city can only be improved by an accompanied cup of Karak. You could enjoy some traditional indoor seating at Chapati and Karak, or take your order to go. This winter, pick up a Ginger Milk Karak from the franchise for a refreshing kick.
Don’t forget to get a stuffed chapati on the side to go with your piping hot beverage. Those with a sweet tooth might favour a crispy nutella chapati, or for those with a more savoury palate, the salty cheese spread is a perfect contrast to the sweetened spiced tea. Add some spicy Oman chips to your cheese chapati - we promise you, you won’t regret it!
Al Naimi Cafe

One of the oldest Karak establishments in Qatar, Al Naimi cafe is considered the place to go for a cup made just right - not too sweet, and not too milky. While the original is a timeless classic, this winter, try the Karak Cornflakes for an undertaking that combines two beloved aspects of Qatari tradition.
Karak Mqanes
An unquestionably popular place located throughout Qatar, the cafe offers traditional food based on Qatari mothers’ and grandmothers’ recipes. While the menu includes delicious Qatari breakfasts and desserts - their drinks and Karak menu should not be missed. For a finer drinking experience, try the Saffron Karak, a true homage to the country’s favourite spice.
Tea Time Winter Editions

Already a firm favourite, Tea Time is known for its fresh juices and karak on the go. This winter, they’ve expanded to introduce seasonal flavourings of hot lotus biscoff and milk saffron.
Found in numerous locations across the country, this popular destination will typically have a queue, but service is fast and they’re definitely worth the wait.
Have you tried these seasonal drinks? Are there any we missed? Let us know!
