If you are a native of Al Khor, then there are reasons to rejoice as the area has just become a whole lot greener.

The Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality, in co-operation with Ras Laffan Industrial City Community Outreach Programme (RLIC-COP), yesterday launched two parks and a nature reserve for the public, according to Gulf Times

Several senior members of the municipality and RLIC-COP attended the opening ceremony of the Al Qarma Beach Garden and Al Khor Plaza. The nature reserve has been named the Al Shu’aa Reserve. 

The Al Qarma Park is spread out around 10,500SqM of area and has 650SqM of green space with several trees. There are two children’s playgrounds with sun protection and solar lighting poles installed throughout the garden, reported Qatar Tribune.

The Al Shuaa nature reserve contains 13,000SqM of green area and is illuminated by solar energy. The park is also equipped with 62 kinds of trees, as well as animals and pet birds including ducks, Arabian oryx, deer, ostrich, goats, quails and pigeons.
The Al Khor Plaza covers an area of 22,500SqM, with 19,000SqM of green space, a circular walkway and a 20M water fountain. A total of 12,000 seasonal flowers and 45 shade trees have been planted here.

The opening of the new facilities comes as part of a plan to expand public parks and gardens in order to increase green spaces and recreational areas for people living in Al Khor and Al Thakhira.
