A surprising plan, if approved, will see some of Qatar’s private schools operating in two shifts — in the mornings and evenings.
It is understood that Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education is actively considering the proposal, allowing private schools to meet the ever-growing demand for school seats, reported The Peninsula.
If given approval, the plan could be put into action as early as the next academic year.
“The proposal is under study and so far we’ve not given final approval,” Rawda Al Zaidan, Director of Private Schools Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education told The Peninsula.
The department is actively considering the pros and cons of the proposal, first suggested by some private schools in the country, and ensure schools meet the standards required for the two shifts.
“This is one of the proposals that the Ministry is looking at. If things work well in terms of applying required standards, we’ll be able to allow two shifts from next academic year onwards,” Al Zaidan was quoted as saying.
The Ministry is also looking into schools that are running over capacity due to incessant demand, especially those from India, The Philippines, and Tunisia.
The Embassy of India is cooperating with the Ministry in finding the solution for problems of shortage of seats for students of its community in Qatar.
“The Embassy gave a number of proposals at the Ministry. Now we’re working to bring appropriate solutions out of these proposals,” she said.
