His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday held a telephonic conversation with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of the Sultanate of Oman to express solidarity and support with the country as it was struck by Cyclone Shaheen.

Tropical Cyclone Shaheen hit Oman yesterday with ferocious winds and heavy rain, flooding streets and leading to evacuations from coastal areas, as well as delaying flights to and from the Omani capital, Muscat, according to Reuters.

At least three casualties were reported and over 2,700 people were put up in emergency shelters as a result of the powerful cyclone.

In his call with Sultan Haitham, HH Qatar's Amir expressed Qatar's solidarity with the brotherly Omani people and its support for the Sultanate in its efforts to face the aftermath of the calamity.

On his part, Sultan Haitham thanked HH the Amir and appreciated his fraternal and humanitarian solidarity. He said Qatar's concern reflects the strength of the brotherly relations between the two countries.

The phone call also saw the two leaders review Qatar-Oman relations and ways to further cement cooperation across different fields.
