Work on Doha Metro is continuing at breakneck speed.

Qatar Rail announced that it has completed 77% of all work on the Doha Metro Project, including 81% of construction work and 59% works related to installation of various systems, reported The Peninsula.

Qatar Rail’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Abdulla Al Subaie discussed about the metro project’s security system, emergency plan and evacuation procedures during a workshop organised by the General Directorate of Civil Defence.

The official said that the Doha Metro’s phase one Red Line, from Al Qassar to Al Wakrah, would formally be inaugurated on October 31, reported Thomson Reuters Zawya.

The Doha Metro Red Line, also known as the Coast Line, runs for about 40km from Al Wakrah in the South to Lusail in the North. The line also connects Hamad International Airport at Terminal 1 to the centre of the city.

It will have 18 stations with the Legtaifiya Station allowing passengers to transfer over to the Lusail Tram.

The top official revealed that the main Msheireb station, which is fast nearing completion, will have the highest capacity with 100,000 passengers per hour.

Other stations were divided into two categories with the capacity of 60,000 and 30,000 passengers per hours.

Various topics including the percentage of the completion of Doha metro, passenger handling capacity, emergency condition, entrances for civil defense personnel, equipment for rescue in tunnel, fire fighting, system for feeding electricity to the stations, accident response teams during construction and operation were discussed at the workshop.

Earlier, Qatar Rail had invited people to apply for licenses to open shops at its various Metro stations, giving people a feel about how close the dream was getting to be completed.

Once completed, the Doha Metro will have the fastest driverless trains in the entire region.
